Cheese scones

We made some butterfly shaped cheese scones. When I was a little girl I learned to make these at school, and after that my mum always used to let me make them when I was bored. I loved them. Here's my recipe....

And here are our scones, which we had great fun making...

Acey said they were disgusting!!!

Bridge

After spending ages inside doing handwriting and reading and listing all of the words we could think of with an 'a' sound in the middle on a beautiful hot summer's day we were so pleased to get OUT!!!!

I left these two men by the stream, and decided to go for a little wander around...

When I got back they had disappeared but a bridge had been left in their place, the only tell tale signs of them ever being there were Acey's shoes left along the bank....

Afterwards we had to rush back for a 'Praise party' at the bible club Acey has been attending where they sang some songs they had been learning.

New hobby! And peace and quiet for mama.

This week Acey has been attending a bible holiday club every morning, where they are doing a project about space, doing various crafts and team games. He is really enjoying it - and I am enjoying the time alone in the mornings too! Alone time is something you rarely get when you home school! It is such an important thing. I read something a few days ago...'every woman needs alone time to connect with her beauty and truth.' Recently I have been feeling burnt out trying to do everything - being a mum, homeschooling, making things to sell, and trying to be there for friends too. I was getting no time to myself - but I have realized that in order to be and do all of those things, you NEED to make time for yourself too. To discover your beauty and truth - and to just get some sleep or something!!!  Big up the school summer holidays when there is lots of stuff for kids to do! (although big up back to school time too, when we will get our libraries, museum and parks all to ourselves again)!

Here is a teenage mutant ninja turtle carved onto some soap which Acey came back from the club with the other day - I am not sure weather we should use it or just keep it to admire!

They have also been learning new bible verses it seems, as this note was left for me last night

We've also discovered a new hobby! We went to a Tudor weaving workshop at the museum and Acey loved it so much we decided to get the equipment to do it at home. Finding a new hobby is such a great thing , especially when it's something crafty! :)

One more thing I wanted to share; Subtraction cards - we have addition ones too - they're great!!!

Now to go back to bed with my book whilst I still have some peace for a few hours!!

African bead art, abundant nature and a butterfly hunt!

This week we had a go at doing some African Bead art  from our 'My little Atelier' art box - which you can find out about here;

Acey started making a beaded picture of a mountain, and a necklace

We also happened to have some pretty African bead necklaces which we bought from a friend who helps women in Africa to sell them, so that they can pay for their daughters to go to school...They are very pretty

We have also spent a lot of time in nature playing with friends at Great Wood

We foraged lots of wild food including mulberries, blackberries, apples, and a wide variety of stuff from our allotment :)

To end the week off we went on a Butterfly hunt - we found a comma, a painted lady and LOADS of cabbage whites :)

Words with 'i' in the middle

Hours of fun and giggles thinking of words with an 'i' sound in the middle - Gosh, I love home schooling!

We have also been enjoying a new Elsa Beskow book (we love all her books) called 'Rosalind and the little dear'
It's very sweet.

Maths, magnets, Marvelous weather

Today some of our home ed friends kindly lent us their magnet kit!

We had a go at mixing some iron filings into putty to see if the magnets were strong enough to lift it - we had to add a lot of iron filings for this!

We also had fun spilling lots of iron filings on the tray and 'hoovering' them up with the magnets..

Playing with Geomags...

Followed by some maths..

And some sunshine... :)

catch up

I haven't blogged in a while; this you'll be pleased to know is not because we haven't been doing any learning ;) but because I've been so busy with my business making these washable sanitary pads to sell at Taunton Vegan Fayre

I didn't think that when I grew up (am I actually grown up)?! I would be a maker of menstrual pads, but praise God! It's going well.... and keeping me busy!

A lot of people are asking if we're taking a break for the school summer holidays - the answer is no! This is because I feel that learning never stops - and because we only do lessons in the mornings and are home all of the time anyway, it carries on as normal. So here is some of the stuff we've been up to these last few weeks;

Acey turned Seven! And had an amazing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle themed birthday party at Imagine Design Create..

Acey's reading is progressing, since we got given FIVE of these boxes of primary school reading books off of Freecycle - for free!!!

Acid Alkaline experiment....

And we have started a project on pirates which we will be continuing over the next month or so...

And lots of other stuff too! :) Will be blogging more regularly now the busyness has died down xxx
