Good Friday

Good Friday has mostly consisted of this:

We made our THIRD batch of tasty chocolate mini egg nest cakes this week...

We had a fish supper at Mum's/nanny's  - this has been a tradition in our family for years - does anybody else do this?! And we also went to a 'What makes Good Friday good' service at our local church where we made these sweet bookmarks. Each color bead means a different thing.

...followed by a sleepover!

Lighting fires and forest school easter egg hunts...

Weird weather lately - it snowed last night and today it was blissfully sunny. When we arrived at forest school with our friends Matthew and Sarah and their mum Mary there were patches of snow which looked pretty with the sunshine falling onto it...

This was our third session at The Woodland Play center and Acey is getting so much out of it already! Today the children gathered sticks and lit the fire, used a special tool to cut long branches, made mossy bunny ears and noses, went on a magic Easter egg hunt, drank hot chocolate, made chocolate cornflake nest cakes. But Acey's favorite thing was the special bushcraft tool for lighting fires, he spent almost the two hours we were there making sparks with it and developed a real knack! He loved it so much that he decided he wants to save his pocket money for one... if anyone else is interested, you can get them here...

Easter crafts

So here I am blogging again...mainly for family and friends to see what we are getting up to. So many people are skeptical of our home ed choice, but hopefully this will encourage some people that we DO socialize, we aren't recluses, we DO learn things, and we actually have fun in the process ;) and it IS possible for a single mother on a low income to home ed!

It's almost Easter time so we have been doing some fun Easter crafts. There is much debate about the origins of Easter, but this is now a time of faith for us, to focus on the amazing story of Yeshua's death and resurrection which brings much joy and thanksgiving in our lives...

We had great fun yesterday making salt dough Easter eggs. We walked around the park gathering branches so that we could study tiny spring buds opening up on our nature table, and they are really effective with the salt dough eggs hanging from them...

An easy salt dough recipe is: 2 cups flour, 1 cup table salt, 1 cup water... mix into a dough and knead for ten minutes, and then it's ready to roll out. Bake in the oven on a low temp until they are golden brown and hard. We used an egg shaped cutter and then painted them in bright colors with pretty stipes and spots.

Acey also made some lovely Easter cards

Now if only the weather would be more springlike!!
