Oceans and Grandad's birthday!

On Monday, we read about foxes, so Acey decided he would like to draw one!

 

 

He also drew one of his Lego heroes - a great way to get away with playing with Lego, using it as an art project ;)

 

 

On Tuesday we had our lovely home ed group. The Taunton home ed group meets once a month at a fellow home educator's home, (the lovely Caroline who bravely opens her home up for all kinds of home ed activities) and there is a different theme each time. We have done a chocolate theme, a chicken theme, toilets, native Americans, Earth day and lots more. The children usually have a questionnaire to fill in about the theme as well as related craft activities, and a massive garden full of chickens and a trampoline to play in. This time it was an Ocean themed day, as one of the home educating mums in our group is going to be doing an awesome challenge, swimming seven of the world's channels in a year. She has already been the first woman to swim from Cornwall to the Isles of Scilly! We are lucky to have someone inspirational in our group.  On Wednesday, we revisited the fab home ed art exhibition with Acey's dad, and showed him Acey's work. He was impressed.

 

 

 

On Thursday we went to another home ed group, which also meets once a month in a local village hall. It's lovely to see children of all ages playing nicely together.

 

 

 On Friday, we went to Bristol to visit Grandad as it was his birthday! He showed us around his church, and then we went for a lovely meal. It was a very nice day, and great that we didn't have to miss his birthday because it was a school day! How I love home ed.

 

 

Taunton home ed art exhibition

Last week we read about the Magna carta and Acey did a piece of writing about it. Aparently, King John was an 'evil king of doom'!

We have been learning about the middle ages, so we talked about what they would have eaten in those days. Most people would have made pottage every day, so we decided to make our own. We also tried some mead, to get into the true medieval spirit of things. We decided that in winter, it will be very warming to have a shot of mead.

 

On Wednesday, we had our long awaited Taunton Home educated children's art exhibition, organised by their lovely art history teacher.

 The exhibition was held in Café espresso in Taunton, and will be on display for two weeks.

 

 

On Thursday they had their drama class, and Friday was Tennis class. After tennis, we went to one of our favourite nature spots, Great Wood with Acey's friend Isaac to play in the stream and light a fire. They had a lovely time playing in the sunshine.

 

 

 



 

Hello again :)

Hello! It's been two years since I last blogged about home ed, and I thought I would start it up again, seeing as a friend mentioned that she was sharing my blog the other day on her website, so I thought I'd better up my game! Here we are still home educating, still enjoying it, still doing it on my own, but with the help of our lovely friend Dave who takes us everywhere, as I STILL don't drive. We are busy every week doing home ed horse riding lessons, art history lessons, maths lessons, drama lessons, and tennis lessons! As well as swimming lessons and guitar lessons too. We have started a new business (with Dave) putting on ultra marathons - (putting them on for other people to run, as if you would catch me running)! We are involved with a lovely group of home educators and are so lucky there is now such a big community of home educators in Taunton for us to be friends with. More and more people are taking their children out of the failing school system, it would seem! Here is the Taunton Home ed website, so you can see some of the things that are going on. This week has been a good week to blog about as we went to Cleeve Abbey in Washford, and it was amazing. Like all English Heritage sites, they let us in for free because we were home educators, and they were very supportive and helpful. They even gave us an interactive book to walk around with, and some hands on objects. We have been studying medieval times, including monks and gothic architecture recently, so this was a perfect trip!

We also went to a pretty village church, to continue with our gothic architecture theme. We studied the beautiful stained glass window, and Acey drew the church gate! And whilst we were there, we were lucky enough to encounter someone practising the organ.
